Narrative Account

  • By now everyone needs to have their topic, conflict, and question written out.
  • Have your outline labeled with a beginning, middle, and end!
  • Go over your outline and label where it would be appropriate to expand with a thoughtshot, snapshot, or dialogue.
  • Look at your outline and determine where you will begin your draft. Capture the reader's attention by starting in the middle of things with dialogue or some action!
  • Continue working on your drafts. Remember to write on every other line.

I have seen a connection between what we do in reading workshop and writing worshop. Since reading workshop and writing worshop are itertwined, the elements and text structures that we are looking for in Novio Boy we can incorporate into our narrative accounts.

You make an excellent observation, Robert! Continue to add the elements of Gary Soto's writing that we analyze in reading workshop to your own narrative account during the writing workshop.
